I’ve worked in corporate and government to help organizations reduce waste and improve efficiency. I was taught that to be great at something, you must teach, lead, consult, and publish. So I published the books I needed but couldn’t find. Today, I do for other high performers and experts what I first did for myself: turn lived experience and hard-won expertise into a book worthy of it, and when it’s needed, into a full curriculum built to be taught, not just read.
Shermaine’s BooksI attended 13 schools across 5 countries before I graduated high school. That is what it means to grow up a military kid: you move, you start over, and you learn how to belong somewhere new, again and again. Reading books made my world even cooler, and finding the local library always made the new place feel like home.
Here is what I know now that I did not know then: that constant change was not something happening to me, it was building me. It taught me resilience before I had a word for it. It made me multilingual, comfortable in rooms I had never been in before, and gave me a deep, genuine appreciation for cultures, people, and places most kids never get to experience firsthand. This became one of my greatest advantages as an adult. But I did not always see it that way. For years, I just knew I moved a lot, and that it was supposed to be okay.
That adaptability followed me into my career. I spent 8 years as a college professor, then moved into corporate and government work, helping organizations reduce waste and improve efficiency using Six Sigma methodology. Along the way, I earned my Master of Public Administration, became a Certified Professional in Talent Development (CPTD) and an ATD Master Instructional Designer, and in 2020 was recognized as an ATD One to Watch. But somewhere in the middle of all of it, I was taught something that changed the direction of my work entirely: to be great at something, you must teach, lead, consult, and publish.
So I published the book that didn’t exist when I needed it growing up across the globe. I Move A Lot And That’s Okay became the first title in what is now the And That’s Okay!® series, a registered trademark and a growing library of books that help military-connected children see their experience reflected back at them, not as a footnote, but as the main character, and as a story of strength.
That work led somewhere I did not expect. Schools, military family support programs, and organizations across the globe started asking for more than a book. They wanted a curriculum: turnkey, trauma-informed programs they could put directly in front of kids and families navigating deployment, relocation, and everything that comes with military life. So I built that too, using the same instructional design expertise I had already spent my career developing. That background is what allows the curriculum I build to hold up to real education standards, not just good intentions.
Today, through Amazingly Published, I do for other high performers and experts what I first did for myself: turn lived experience and hard-won expertise into a book, and when it is needed, into a full curriculum built to be taught, not just read. You bring the story or the framework. My team and I handle everything it takes to make it real, professionally designed, standards-aligned when it needs to be, and ready for the people who need it most.
