Gary came to us with a story he’d been telling for years, just never on the page. A former teacher, he was constantly asked about his Caribbean culture and cuisine, the kind of conversation starter that follows someone everywhere. We saw an opportunity to turn that into something visual and shareable: a coloring and activity book depicting popular Caribbean fruits, marrying his love of teaching with a format built for a wider audience to enjoy.
Our globally-dispersed team of illustrators, formatters, and coloring book designers brought the concept to life. Then came the strategic piece: using market research to land on a title built to sell. We noticed “coloring and activity book” was trending and driving real sales, so we built that language directly into the title, positioning the book for a niche market already searching for it: travelers heading to the Caribbean.
The book found its audience, and then some. Beyond Gary’s original vision, Tropical Fruits of the Caribbean is now also being used to help cancer patients relieve stress during treatment, a use case no one set out to create, but one that speaks to how far a well-designed book can travel beyond its original purpose.
The project’s success led directly to a series. Flags of the Caribbean Islands: Coloring and Activity Book followed as the second title, with more planned.
