One moment stood out in the process: with the authors’ input on their original cover vision, our team asked to poll their intended audience, a focus group of 100 educators, for research purposes. We shared back the raw data and overall feedback, and together we used those insights to shape a cover that spoke directly to the readers this book was built to reach.
As co-authors working together through the process, communication mattered as much as the final product. Andrena noted that working remotely can mean questions get answered in the moment but fade from memory later, and that having every update on video, not just in writing, meant she and Deborah could revisit exactly what was discussed whenever they needed to, no lost details, no guessing.
